Our Ethos: Nurturing Nature and Global Citizenship
Each of our age-appropriate playrooms promotes ecology and the diversity of the planet to inspire a brighter and greener world for future generations. Our daily ethos instills a love for the natural world, fostering environments designed to encourage kindness toward the planet and each other.
Time at Wild at Heart is spent in four age-relevant rooms. Children start their “Globetrotting” adventures in our ocean-themed room, Beachcombers, and at around 18 months, they transition to our British Woodland-themed room, Forest Keepers. We carefully consider which academic year each child will fall into, ensuring that their time with us is maximized.
After their time in Forest Keepers, children move to the Japanese-themed room, Mountaineers, and complete their final academic year in the African-themed Wild at Heart Pre School, where they are affectionately called Park Rangers.
Across the nursery, we provide high-quality resources, expert pedagogical knowledge, and safe environments to support children, parents, staff, families, and the local community. Wild at Heart fosters a space where children freely follow their interests, explore their creativity, and channel their curiosity, with nurturing adults by their side to encourage rich language, problem-solving, and independent thinking.
Our Core Values: Learning Through Nature and Sustainability
The Great Outdoors: Play, Exploration, and Adventure
Nature is a vital contributor to children’s confidence and independence, and at Wild at Heart, we are passionate about educating children about the wonders of the world and how to care for it. All children receive a reusable wet bag as part of their welcome pack, and we encourage parents to minimize single-use items. We ask all parents to provide waterproofs for outdoor adventures, ensuring that we can explore nature in all weather conditions.
In Spring 2023, we introduced a bespoke adventure playground with sand play, a dry riverbed, climbing equipment, mud kitchens, and artificial mounds for endless fun. We also have access to private farmland behind the nursery, ideal for watching the seasons change, observing wildlife, and learning about farming. Further along the farm track, we have our own forest school site, where trained leaders host campfires, woodworking sessions, and other unforgettable outdoor experiences.
Healthy Eating: Nourishing Young Minds
Food plays an important role in fueling our children’s energy and learning. Our open kitchen allows children to observe and participate in meal preparation, from washing vegetables to baking. Our chef, Jane, prepares nutritious meals from scratch, following a four-week menu that aligns with under-5 nutritional guidelines. Hearty lunches such as roast dinners, lasagne, and three-bean curry are complemented by lighter teas and snacks throughout the day.
Children are encouraged to use cutlery, pour their own drinks, and tidy up after meals. They also enjoy learning sign language for polite communication. Meals are served in designated areas, with staff modeling healthy eating habits and table manners to foster a positive dining environment.
